Welcome to the Blog

Dave Bergart and I were elected in November as the newest and youngest members of the Victor, ID City Council. After getting over the "careful what you ask for" feelings, we started jumping in with both feet. Fortunately, right when we were wondering how exactly we planned on implementing the things we campaigned on, we were invited to Washington D.C. for the New Partners in Smart Growth Conference. Wow, talk about information overload! The conference was amazing! Dave and I got a crash course in smart growth, new urbanism, and livable communities. Terms that you'll here lots about if you keep checking in with this blog.

The biggest thing we learned is how lucky we are to be at the stage of growth where it's possible to really make a difference. Most communities interested in this form of development are trying to correct all the mistakes they made in the past. In Victor we have the chance to do it right from the beginning. And we're already off to a good start! In 2005 Victor produced a Community Action Plan, in 2006 the city adopted a new Comprehensive Plan, and in 2007 we were a lucky recipient of the EPA's Smart Growth Technical Assistance Grant. These documents lay out tremendous goals for Victor. Now it's time to make those goals a reality.

The first step in this is communication. How do we communicate these days? For a lot of us it's blogging. So here you have it. The official blog of Victor, ID. Who could have imagined such a thing even 5 years ago!

We hope this blog becomes a community resource and an important tool that will help grow our community into something we can all be proud of. Stay tuned.
